Alexandra Hart, MD, explains from her own experience on how to build your reputation inside of a private surgical practice partnerhip.
Hello, and welcome to “Beauty and the Biz,” where we’ll discuss the business and marketing side of plastic surgery.
As always, I’m your host, Catherine Maley, author of “Your Aesthetic Practice – What Your Patients Are Saying.” and consultant to plastic surgeons, helping them get more patients and more profits.
Build Your Reputation Inside a Partnership
In this week’s video, Dr. Alexandra Hart shares how she navigated joining a senior surgeon’s practice. Meanwhile, the board-certified plastic surgeon from Atlanta, GA, explains what she learned about marketing independence along the way.

To clarify, here are some of her biggest insights:
First, senior partners may rely on reputation while younger surgeons must build visibility.
Second, practice websites often favor the established surgeon unless you advocate for positioning.
Third, marketing budgets can become a negotiation point.
Fourth, social media may become your greatest asset for independence.
Finally, tracking lead sources gives you leverage in business discussions.
As a result of her experience, she shared one particularly powerful lesson. Indeed, when she later opened her own practice, many patients found her through social media because she had built her own presence early. Thus, that effort gave her resilience when circumstances changed.
Regarding her advice between the lines, you should never outsource your personal reputation to the practice brand alone. Instead, you must build both. Because partnerships change. Additionally, markets change. Furthermore, leadership changes. Nevertheless, your personal reputation follows you. To conclude, this episode shows exactly what that looks like.
PS: After decades of working with top practices, I have noticed a clear pattern. Specifically, the busiest surgeons do not always have better marketing. Instead, they run tighter systems.
