Beauty and the Biz episode with Christopher C. Jeffries, MD and Catherine Maley

His Marketing is Surprisingly Old School — Christopher C. Jeffries, MD

He proves that a combination of genuine patient goodwill and compassion is perhaps the best advertisement.

Hello, and welcome to “Beauty and the Biz,” where we’ll discuss the business and marketing side of plastic surgery.

As always, I’m your host, Catherine Maley, author of “Your Aesthetic Practice – What Your Patients Are Saying.” and consultant to plastic surgeons, helping them get more patients and more profits.

Christopher Jeffries, MD explains how the marketing for his Michigan med spa and surgical practice is surprisingly old school.

Admittedly, you do not often hear successful plastic surgeons dismiss digital marketing. Instead, they rarely say they spend zero time on social media. However, Dr. Christopher Jeffries told me exactly that during our “His Marketing Is Surprisingly Old School” interview. Truly, this board-certified plastic surgeon built a healthy two-location practice and med spa in Traverse, Michigan. Consequently, I asked him how he attracts new patients. Actually, his practice builds its marketing around something much harder to manufacture. Specifically, he focuses on reputation, reviews and the patient experience.

  • First, patients find the practice.

  • Next, they read the reviews online.

  • Then, they discover a highly respected plastic surgeon nearby.

  • Subsequently, his team works hard to give them an experience worth discussing.

Furthermore, I really liked his proactive approach to feedback. Namely, Dr. Jeffries does not just hope happy patients leave reviews. Rather, he personally asks them for feedback. Strategically, he puts his hand on the exam room door at the perfect moment. Then, he turns around and says he almost forgot something. Promptly, he asks for a Google review. Also, he explains that their review helps the next patient feel confident choosing the practice. Afterwards, his team takes over the process using a convenient QR code. Moreover, they encourage the patient to complete it before leaving the office. Overall, the method is beautifully simple. Additionally, the approach feels incredibly personal. Ultimately, the strategy is very different from sending an automated text days later.

Meanwhile, his practice events are another story entirely. Certainly, these events allow him to connect deeply with his patients. Furthermore, they provide a highly memorable experience. Consequently, they bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars. Indeed, this is a nice accomplishment!

P.S. Undeniably, reputation, reviews and the patient experience are your most valuable growth assets. Therefore, I cover how to strengthen all three in “The Plastic Surgery Practice Growth Playbook”.
