Hello, and welcome to Beauty and the Biz where we’ll talk about going how George Sanders, MD, has shared his office for 20 years. Additionally, we’ll discuss the general business and marketing side of plastic surgery.
As always, I’m your host, Catherine Maley, author of “Your Aesthetic Practice – What your patients are saying.” I’m also a consultant to plastic surgeons, to get them more patients and more profits.
Presenting today’s episode titled, “Shared Office for 20 Years — with George Sanders, MD.”
Obviously, It’s common for surgeons to leave academia or multi-specialty practices because they want more freedom and autonomy to practice their way.
However, be careful what you wish for, since it’s not always greener on the other side.
To be sure, solo practice has its own challenges. Additionally, you shoulder 100% responsibility for overhead, staff, patients, marketing and everything else that goes into running a practice.
But, you also live in a silo since you have nobody to bounce ideas off of. Furthermore, your staff has to see you as all-knowing, and your family really doesn’t understand the pressure you’re under.
So, you wonder if there’s a way to enjoy the benefits of collaboration without the pitfalls of a traditional partnership?

In summary, answers to that question can be found in this week’s video with an interview I did with Dr. George Sanders. Not only is he a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon practicing in southern CA, but he’s been doing so for the past 39 years.
Chiefly, we talked about he maintains a thriving solo practice while benefiting from a unique “shared expenses” arrangement with another surgeon. Amazingly, for over 20 years, this innovative approach has allowed both surgeons to enjoy the advantages of shared resources, reduced overhead costs, and mutual support, without the conflicts and complications that often arise in traditional partnerships.
In short, Dr. Sanders says it’s the best of both worlds for both surgeons: Moreover, they both enjoy the advantages of shared resources, reduced overhead costs, and mutual support, without the conflicts and complications that commonly appear in traditional partnerships.
